People Are Emotional Over This Viral Video Of Kathy Bates Being Healed “In Real Time” After A Journalist Alleviated More Than 30 Years Of Guilt From Her

In a new interview with Ben Mankiewicz on CBS Sunday Morning, the 76-year-old star suggested she regretted not thanking her mom during her acceptance speech back in 1991. 

Kathy had a difficult relationship with her mother, who died in February 1997, and in the interview, she revealed that her mom had been less than impressed by her Oscar achievement.

Journalist Ben matter-of-factly replied: “You know, you did thank her. At the end of your speech, you thanked her.”

“No, I did not,” Kathy insisted. “You go back and look at it, I didn’t.”

Ben then pulled up a video of Kathy’s acceptance speech on his phone, and sure enough, he was right. 

Holding on to her Oscar, then-42-year-old Kathy says in the clip: “I’d like to thank my family, my friends, my mom at home, my dad — who I hope is watching somewhere.”

“Why does that mean so much to you?” Ben asked.

“Because she should have had my life,” Kathy matter-of-factly replied. “When she died, I said: ‘Come into me.’ I wanted her spirit to come into me, even though we had so many difficulties.”

“I wanted her spirit to come into me and enjoy everything I was enjoying because of what she’d given up,” Kathy tearfully concluded. 

“I love a journalist that knows what he’s talking about. Obviously there’s more important things to really know what you’re talking about, but we just watched Ben Mankiewicz heal her in real time 💗” one of the most popular comments reads.

“😭😭😭 I wish I could hug Kathy,” somebody else wrote. “Kudos to Ben for giving her that moment that she so clearly craved and being so gentle with her.”

“Her face when she heard it was so moving. It looked like years of angst just wiped away,” another observed.
