Back in August, a celebrity love triangle was dominating the headlines following the release of Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album, Short n’ Sweet, which appeared to include multiple songs referencing her short-lived romance with Shawn Mendes — and how he reportedly left her to rekindle his relationship with Camila Cabello.
None of the stars involved publicly commented on the messy situation at the time, however, Sabrina did appear to lift the lid in her music over a year later. When Short n' Sweet was released, fans immediately speculated that “Coincidence,” “Sharpest Tool,” “Dumb & Poetic,” and “Taste” were all inspired by the Shawn and Camila drama.
But in addition to reflecting on the love triangle specifically, fans believe that Sabrina also takes aim at Shawn on a more personal level.
Sadly for us, the MTV cameras didn’t show Shawn or Camila during Sabrina’s performance, and neither star publicly acknowledged the sudden social media storm surrounding their lives — until now.
At this point, a fan replied: “Media and people online have a way of truly twisting and assuming narratives that they don’t know a thing about. hope you know we’re here for you tho, we’re just tired of people trying to tear others down all the time.”
“I get you too,” Shawn said in response. “I also feel this, tired of people bringing other people down also.”
Meanwhile, Camila alluded to the drama during a performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival last month, where she chose to omit a telltale word from the lyrics of her collaboration with Shawn, “Señorita.”
