Last week, Brittany Mahomes hit the headlines after former president and convicted felon Donald Trump thanked her for her support amid his 2024 presidential campaign.
Brittany was then seen liking pro-Trump comments on her Instagram post, including one that read: “Glad to see you aren’t backing down. We’re all entitled to our own opinions and shouldn’t be bullied into submission.”
All of this led to Trump himself publicly thanking Brittany for her support. On Sept. 4, he wrote on his Truth Social account: “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country.”
So, when pop singer Taylor Swift sat in a different suite to Brittany at last week’s Kansas City Chiefs game, it was widely speculated that it was in response to Brittany becoming so aligned with Trump.
However, Taylor proved this was not the case when she excitedly reunited with Brittany at the US Open on Sunday.
The two couldn’t have looked closer and were both smiling broadly as Taylor affectionately embraced Brittany in their shared box at the tennis event.
Unsurprisingly, Taylor’s fans were disappointed to see her ongoing public alliance with somebody Trump himself acknowledged as one of his supporters — especially as Taylor hasn’t used her huge platform to endorse anybody in the upcoming election.
This is particularly interesting as in 2020, Taylor famously released a documentary called Miss Americana, in which she passionately and emotionally discusses why it is so important for her to speak up about politics.
This isn’t the first time in recent memory that Taylor has sparked backlash for who she chooses to associate with; just last year, the star’s brief relationship with The 1975 frontperson Matty Healy was heavily criticized.
